Ringing in the New Year

New years is always a time of reflection. We ponder as we review our year (the highs, the lows) and also what we hope to accomplish in this next year. Resolutions have gotten such bad rap because we tend to be very general about our goals and in turn we end up forgetting about them come February. Apparently “New Year, New Me” is now an ongoing joke and officially, one of the most overused sarcastic captions as we kissed 2015 bye-bye !

BUT it doesn’t have to be this way!!! Resolutions can be very exciting as we cash in on this shiny, brand new slate. I’m a strong believer in vision boards and goal setting ! I put together a vision board last year, pinning (IRL) things I dream of realizing, and I’m so happy to say I actually managed to check a lot of those off my board.

Some highlights were:

  • Launched this blog
  • Finally took a roadtrip with my boyfriend
  • Visited Prada Marfa, New York, Grand Canyon, and Tulum (Traveling is always all over my boards. What can I say I have the travel bug)
  • Took a Hot Air Balloon ride
  • Volunteering abroad is set for this month! I set it all up in 2015
  •  I have my dream room

When something is staring you in the face every day its hard to dismiss them with the rest of the world’s wishful yet evanescent resolutions…

Do not lose sight of your dreams

Its tough for our brains to process anything that is incredibly vague. So instead of just keeping these general goals… I always like to go in and give them some specificity in my notebook. There has to be some kind of measure attached to each goal and written down on paper to really make these goals happen! Its all about putting these things out into the universe and the universe will work with you to truly makes these things happen.

Instead of saying I need to get in shape. Set alarms on your phone to work out and do it ! Write down Go jogging for an hour 3 times a week and of course stick to it. A kid should be able to say yes you hit your mark! You worked out 3 times a week. In turn, it would be very hard for a kid to say you “worked out more.” What is more? Its very ambiguous.

For these very specific goals I like to give them a 3 month time period, because when I begin thinking of all 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days its gets so overwhelming and I will freak out and kind of choke. So I keep it to 3 months and then assess to see what I need to work on, or give myself a pat on the back 😉

Of course any tiny stride towards any of your goals should make you feel good. Nothing sucks more than looking back when you first had the goal in mind and thinking “Imagine if I just stuck with it…where would I be now?” Don’t let your resolutions slip away into resolution-mockery hell with the rest of ’em!!!

I wish you all a beautiful + productive New Year!
