TOP FASHION RESOURCES

I’ve always been super into researching everything when it comes to fashion and while studying fashion merchandising at university it intensified it even more. Here are some books, documentaries, movies and website that have really helped expand my knowledge when it comes to the industry. Some helped me discover and understand different positions in the industry, others help me fashion forecast or simply understand the trends and where they stem from, but they all allow me to appreciate the art of fashion even more.

So here is my compiled of all my favorite fashion resources:

BOOKS

Here is a list of my favorite books that really inspire me. The people mentioned in these books can really help mentor you and give you a better idea about the styling world/fashion industry and also trend forecasting.

I feel like this book does a really good job of depicting a day in the life of a stylist and all the resources needed. My one con is that its outdated but a lot of the info can still be useful. Secrets of Stylists: An Insider’s Guide to Styling the Stars http://amzn.to/2DtwlY3

MOVIES

Its always a good idea to know what iconic movies continue to inspire fashion. Whether it be editorial shoots or the design houses themselves. These movies are constantly referenced and such fashion movies so give them a watch.

Sabrina, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Basically everything Audrey Hepburn. Sabrina was the marriage of the dynamic duo that was Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn. It was the first time two had worked together and they created various iconic styles that have become classic staples to this day. These films also solidified Audrey Hepburn as a style icon. The LBD, the trench coat, black wayfarers, ballet flats, loafers, cigarette pant,  and turtlenecks have all been memorialized through these films.

Annie Hall

The number one references when it comes to adrogynous style. Classic woman in meanswear which is what we’ve been seeing alot on the 2017/2018 runways.

Love Story

Ali Macgraw is such a style icon and this movie has all the collegiate prepster inspo one could ever need.

Mahogony

First off its Diana Ross and secondly gives you all the 70s glitz and glam feels. Designers are constantly referencing this film.

Sex And the City

Pretty much an index of every big time designer.

More movies that are always referenced and the costumes were perfection.

Clueless

The Fifth Element

Blade Runner

Casino

Taxi Driver

The Birds
